Hundreds of electrical workers in North America are injured or die every year from the effects of the electrical hazards of shock and arc flash. Statistics indicate that, on average, one electrical worker in the US each day ends up in a bum-trauma unit due to the effects of arc flash.
In Ontario, statistics indicate that an average of seven workers died every year over the last decade from the effects of shock or arc flash. Additionally, on average, 23 workers were hospitalized every year with critical1 electrical injuries. The Ontario Ministry of Labour attributed 83% of these accidents to working on energized equipment or in close proximity to energized equipment.
